AKA..no bullshit financial advice for those in tears.

Slightly stylized image of cards in a wallet.

Hi, I’m Shannon and I am poor. For 2021 I have real talk financial advice for poor folks or folks working with small amounts of money. Before we get into it be aware. This is not aspirational; this is not a fantasy we are working with what we have right now. Accepting that as your starting point is essential to making progress. We’re going to discuss how I have managed to do the following stuff on a tiny budget. Our goals here are not wealth or the promise of upward mobility. This is for survival and skills we can use forever regardless of our economic circumstances. These were my original goals for 2020.

  1. Removed/paid off debt.
  2. Keep my score over 700.
  3. Continue to maintain a good debt to income ratio.
  4. Be able to pay my regular bills.

For context I have been poor my whole adult life. I also come from a place of economic trauma and serious doubt about my ability to manage my finances and glow up. This is not aspirational advice nor is it advice from someone who hates poor people. This is advice made for poor folks from a poor person. You might feel terrible when you start, it is okay. The important parts are to learn, don’t get bogged down in the bad feelings and I will repeat, use what you already have.
